My philosophy is simple: I want to empower you personally and help you gain clarity and purpose in your life. It is possible to create the life you want.
My calling to become a helper started when I was very young. My friends thought I was a great listener and told me I should think about becoming a counselor. Although being a great listener is one of the trademarks of a good counselor, I needed specialized training to understand a person's internal struggles and therapeutic solutions. I left my small hometown in Georgia to attend the University of Georgia where I got a Bachelors Degree in Psychology. Afterwards, I obtained a Masters Degree in Counseling from Ottawa University in Phoenix, AZ. My work history consists of private practice supporting clients who are having problems with relationships, anxiety, or simply not feeling fulfilled in life. I have also enjoyed working as a counselor supporting the chronically mentally ill in a residential treatment facility, outpatient treatment for addicts, group therapy and individual counseling for those struggling with addiction and mental illness, inpatient detox, and aftercare for those struggling with addiction.
One thing I have always loved about being a counselor is getting to know a diverse group of people. I meet young and old people, religious people and atheists, gay people and straight people, people whose careers range from surgeons to grocery store workers. To me, all people are equal and innately important.
I have also benefitted from counseling myself, so I know how it feels to be a client. I have been in counseling to enhance my relationship, become a better parent, and get support during tough life transitions. I know how it feels to sit in front of a counselor and feel nervous and wonder if they will help me. I can honestly say that counseling has always helped me, but not always in ways that I expected. Sometimes I was challenged much more than I expected and sometimes I didn't get the answers I wanted, but I always got what I needed. You might find yourself having similar experiences if you decide to get counseling.
My career has taken me to Phoenix, AZ and South Florida. Now, I am fortunate to live in the beautiful mountains of Asheville, NC where I am able to do online counseling from my home office. In my free time, I enjoy hiking in the mountains with my partner and two children. I am an avid potter and I enjoy watching live music.
